In honor of Juneteenth, the Indiana Historical Society (IHS) will offer free admission on Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center.

Sights, Sounds and Soldiers on Indiana Avenue 1940’s - 1970’s
Celebrate Juneteenth weekend with Michele Wood. Owning your own business is a family affair! Black owned business on Indiana Avenue was integral to the state of Indiana and Country.
Join us in an immersive event that shares the stories, contributions and victories that helped shape the experience on the Avenue. Join community members as we dive into the legacy of business, faith, music, and military service on Indiana Avenue. Stick around for the afternoon soulful jazz tribute, reminisce on the sounds and voices that once filled the neighborhood, and celebrate Black culture, history, the resilience of community, and the power of remembering the past.
Presented in collaboration with Michele Wood. Known for her mastery in storytelling, design, painting, and color theory, Michele has been awarded numerous accolades including the American Book Award, the Coretta Scot King Illustrator Award, the John Newbery Honor, and a NAACP Image Award nomination.
